TEN YEARS AND STILL JUST AS FULL OF CRAP
AS EVER.
THE TV SHOW THAT NEVER SAYS "QUIT" OR "GIVE UP" (OR "WASH YOUR HANDS").
THE OTHERSIDE WITH KEN MOTTET... WHO EXACTLY IS WATCHING THIS THING?
What can we say but thank you to the thousands who performed
and those who came to the Abbey Pub May 15 for our ten year anniversary
show. The thank you list, of course, begins with Joseph Filipek and Kevin
Morrissey of the MECA Conference.
They let us stage this show in the first place. It was their idea lock stock
and barrel. They also made it possible for us to interview the majestic pop
legend who is Butch Walker (new album
due soon -- watch for the interview
and new videos on TOS).
We also must say thanky to Shawn Duffy, booker extraordinaire
at the Abbey Pub. He didn't even
bat an eye at the idea of a bunch of rhythmic hillbillies clogging up his
club. Thank you, Shawn. I look forward to stomping across your stage in the
near future.
Thank you to the Leslie Smith Combo (newcomers who really
get the job
done), the RipTones (erstwhile Chicago legends who still get my toes a-tappin').
And for work above and beyond the call of duty we thank the men from Detroit,
the Hi-Q's. These guys have
a brand new spinner featuring twelve slabs of solid rockabilly. I cannot
thank them enough for coming to Chicago for some small change just to celebrate
TOS and to kick up some dust.
Also big thank yous to my "band" featuring the upright
bass of Gentleman Dave Henriksen (I hope I spell that right) and the six-string
twanglin' of Dave Sisson. It's
really cool having actual musicians holding me up when I start flouncing
around a stage.
Above all big thank yous go to Mike Hoffman and Paul
Kanalas of Destruction Productions along with Eric and Stefanie Burns who
shot the whole fiasco for future blackmail.
And thank you to those among you who watch the show
and came to our event at the Abbey Pub. It was a B-A-L-L.
