ACROSS THE NATION, UNION BROTHERS AND SISTERS ARE STAGING RALLIES, PARADES
AND EVENTS TO SHINE A SPOTLIGHT ON WORKERS' STRUGGLES TO GET A VOICE AT
WORK. THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF EVENTS HAPPENING IN MASSACHUSETTS:

ST. VINCENT'S HOSPITAL NURSES/MNA THANK THE COMMUNITY PICNIC: On May 31, the
Mass Nurses Association held a picnic at Institute Park in Worcester to
celebrate their newly won VOICE @ WORK. After a six-week strike to win a
first contract and to maintain the quality of health care at St. Vincent's
Hospital, the nurses won a major victory with the help of their friends in

ANOTHER DEMOCRAT AGAINST UNION BUSTING was the theme for Democratic Party
labor activists at the Massachusetts Democratic Convention on June 3. SEIU
285, the Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO and the Mass AFL-CIO led a resolution/rally
through the halls of the convention condemning the Continental Wingate
Corporation and the Schusters of Boston, who are major political fundraisers
to the Democratic Party. Wingate refuses to bargain in good faith for a
first contract for its nursing home workers in Wilbraham. For more info or

LABOR, COMMUNITY AND RELIGION DEMAND PROJECT LABOR AGREEMENTS IN
SPRINGFIELD: 6:00 p.m., Monday, June 5 at Court Square across from City
Hall. Sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Project, hundreds of community/labor
and religious activists will gather to demand union jobs and the hiring of
inner city workers on several upcoming publicly funded building projects.

VOICE AT WORK LABOR/RELIGION MEETING: 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 7 at UFCW
Local 791, 9 North Main St., West Bridgewater. Brockton area unions to meet
with the Brockton
Interfaith Committee as part of the national Voice at Work campaign, a
broad-based national effort to overcome the obstacles workers face in
unionizing and obtaining their own VOICE @ WORK. Sponsored by the

RIGHT TO ORGANIZE RESOLUTION IN SALEM: 7 p.m., Thursday, June 8 at Salem

SUMMUP A VOICE AT WORK: 1:00p.m., Friday, June 9 at the Radisson Hotel in
Hyannis. A representative from the AFL-CIO and a worker from Cape Cod
Ambulance company who was recently fired for trying to form a union with
SEIU 767 will present the AFL-CIO VOICE @ WORK CAMPAIGN to the leaders of
AFSCME Council 93 Mental Health and Mental Retardation local unions. For

ASSEMBLY OF TEMPORARY WORKERS: 3-5 p.m., Sunday, June 11 at St.. Mary
Immaculate Conception School Cafeteria, 301 Haverhill St., Lawrence. A
hearing on worker issues, adoption of a "temporary worker bill of rights"
and a plan of action campaign are among the issues on the agenda for the
assembly, sponsored by the Merrimack Valley Project. The assembly is also

STATEWIDE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS JOB FAIR-ALL TRADES NEEDED: Building Trades
Unions are hosting numerous job fairs in June, aimed at recruiting trades
workers into jobs with top wages, employer-paid healthcare, pensions,

DELTA FLIGHT ATTENDANTS APPEAL FOR FAIRNESS: 1 p.m., Thursday, June 15 at

Association of Flight Attendants is holding a press conference with labor,
community, political and religious leaders to call on Delta Airlines to
respect the rights of workers organizing for a VOICE AT WORK. For more

WHIDDEN HOSPITAL WORKERS DEMAND A VOICE @ WORK: 2:30 - 4 p.m., Thursday,
June 15 3-4PM at Whidden Hospital in Everett. More than a year after voting
to affiliate with SEIU Local 285, Whidden Hospital workers are still without
a first contract. Management at Hallmark Health, a for profit health care
management system and the owner of Whidden Hospital, is doing everything it
can to defeat the union through the bargaining process. Join Greater Boston

"JUST SAY NO PUBLIC FUNDS FOR UNION BUSTING" MARCH: 11 a.m., Tuesday June 20
at the Division of Healthcare Finance &Policy, 2 Boylston St., Boston.
Despite the fact that federal law prohibits the use of Medicaid funds to
bust unions, Medicaid-funded nursing homes and hospitals have worked
vigilantly to silence the worker's right to a VOICE AT WORK. Join the march

RALLY FOR BELL ATLANTIC WORKERS SEEKING A VOICE: 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 27
at 185 Franklin St., Post Office Square, Boston. Join IBEW and CWA workers
in their struggle to organize their unorganized co-workers at Verizon
Wireless, a Bell Atlantic subsidiary. Bell Atlantic workers are getting
ready to strike if necessary to win a VOICE AT WORK FOR VERIZON WIRELESS

MARCH FOR JUSTICE FOR TEMPORARY WORKERS: 4-6 p.m., Thursday June, 29 in
downtown Boston. The Campaign on Contingent Work will lead workers on their
own "Freedom Trail" to a number of downtown temporary worker agencies. At
each stop, agencies will be asked to sign a "Temp Bill of Rights" and agree
to International Labor Organization standards, which guarantee decent wages,
provide benefits, job security and allow temps to organize into unions. For
