She was buried on 15 Jul 1949 in Peru City Cemetery, Peru, LaSalle County, Illinois. Lot 8, block 6, grave 10. She was also known as Polly. She had diabetes.
William M. "Bill" SALE (son of Frederick SALE and Louise WIEST) was born on 4 Apr 1877 in Peru, LaSalle County, Illinois. He was probably born in Livingston County in Saunemin township. He appeared on the census in 1880 in Livingston County, Illinois. He appears on the census in Saunemin township as "William", age 3. He appeared on the census in 1910 in LaSalle County, Illinois. This census shows Bertha Leittl (niece of Pauline Greiner) living with Wm. Sale family and working for him as a servant. It also cites a hired man, Andreas Hansen. He died on 28 Nov 1956 in Peru, LaSalle County, Illinois. He was buried about 30 Nov 1956 in Peru City Cemetery, Peru, LaSalle County, Illinois. Lot 90, Block 5, grave 9. On main drive as you go in, on the left side, just before you turn left. The lot has a large stone saying "Sale". Parents Frederick and Louisa buried there also. He had an estate probated in Dec 1956 in Peru, LaSalle County, Illinois. Personal estate is valued at $14,000; real estate value at $100,000. His three children are listed as "heirs, devisees and legatees"; his sister Rose is a "legatee"; all of his grandchildren with the exception of Martin Sack are listed as "devisees"; grandson William Sack is both "legatee and devisee". He was a farmer in Peru Township, section 6. The "1917 Prairie Farmer Reliable Directory" listed William Sale, wife "Paulina" Greiner; children were William, Louise and Henry. William came to LaSalle county in 1884 and later owned 260 acres in Peru township. It is said that during the Great Depression, William was having trouble making payments on his three farms. According to Jean Paton Sale, he went to the banker and said "I'm doing the best I can. If that's not good enough then just take the farms." The bank then left him alone. However, another version of the story is remembered by Gary Sale, his great-grandson. In this version, William puts on his best suit and takes his gun with him to the bank. He places the gun on the desk and says," I'm doing the best I can. If that's not good enough then you'll have to take the farms. But first I'm going to shoot you and then myself."
