(5/8/08) USFS has announced the selection of
Grand Rapids, Mich., as the site of the 2009 U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships, April 21-25, 2009.
(5/3/08) Congratulations to Barbara Buch on her appointment as a National Dance Judge. Also congratulations to Judy Reiner, 40 years, and Sandy Crawford, 25 years, service as judges!
(4/17/08) Ashley Wagner and Armin Mahbanoozadeh were named to the U.S. Figure Skating 2008-09 "B" team envelope. Parker Pennington and Kristine Musademba were named to the "C" envelope. Congratulations to all our elite skaters! Full story.

(3/21/08) After placing 11th in the short and 15th in the free, Ashley Wagner finished in 16th place out of 53 skaters in her first World Championships, Gothenburg, Sweden. Nice work Ashley!

(3/11/08) 1998 World Junior Champion Derrick Delmore announced his
retirement from competitive singles skating. He has represented the Washington Figure Skating Club for nearly two decades. Derrick is a 2000 Stanford University graduate and a member of USFS's 1996 Scholastic Honors Team. WFSC wishes him the best of luck.

(1/28/08) Congratulations to Ice Force One who took the gold in the Masters Division at the Eastern Sectional Synchronized Team Skating Championships this weekend in Richmond, advancing to represent WFSC at Nationals, Feb. 20th-24th in Providence, RI.
2008 U.S. Championships Watch
(1/26/08) Although she placed 2nd in both the long and short programs, Ashley Wagner won the Senior Ladies bronze medal. She is the seventh WFSC member to qualify for Worlds and the first to qualify in Ladies!
Parker Pennington and Derrick Delmore finished 11th and 15th place respectively in the Senior Men's competition.
(1/24/08) Kristine Musademba won the Pewter Medal in
Junior Ladies!
Armin Mahbanoozadeh came in 6th in the
Junior Mens free skate to move him up to an 8th place final finish.

(12/8/07) Armin Mahbanoozadeh brought home the Bronze Medal from the
2007 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final, in Gdansk, Poland. Kristine Musademba placed 4th. It was a great competition for the U.S. and for WFSC. Read Armin's account of his trip to Croatia.

(11/26/07) WFSC's Ashley Wagner received excellent press in USA Today after winning the bronze medal at the
2007 Trophee Eric Bompard Senior Grand Prix in Paris, November 16-18. Congratulations to Ashley on this great accomplishment!
(11/20/07) It is with sadness we note the passing of Patsy Picken on Monday, November 19th. She was a long-time WFSC judge, skater, and active member. In 1945, Patsy became WFSC's first National Champion when she and Walter (Red) Bainbridge claimed the Silver Dance title (now known as Junior Dance).

(11/4/07) WFSC brought home 26 medals, including 12 gold, from the IceWorks Halloween Adult Classic 2007. Team "Ballston Rocks, Kids Watch Out" (shown at left) won the gold medal in Silver/Gold Team Maneuvers. Results of all WFSC skaters. Photos are available for purchase
(11/4/07) Ashley Wagner did well in her very first Senior Grand Prix, placing 5th in a field of 12 ladies at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2007/2008, Skate Canada International in Quebec City, Canada. USFS Results.
(10/23/07) After only their first year of JGP competition,
Armin Mahbanoozadeh and
Kristine Musademba have both qualified for the
ISU Junior Grand Prix Final in Gdansk, Poland. This is an exciting moment for Washington Figure Skating! Best of luck to both skaters!
(10/20/07) WFSC Skaters brought home 80 medals from the Non-Qualifying 2008 South Atlantic Regional Championships in York PA. These included 21 Gold Medals, 23 Silver, 15 Bronze, and 21 Pewter! WFSC even participated in one event with 8 entries!!! We also had events (one each) with 7, 6 and 5 skaters! Congratulations to all our skaters! Details.

(10/13/07) Parker Pennington won the silver medal at
Finlandia Trophy. He was 1st in the long and 4th in the short. A new member of WFSC, he has a very distinguished record, winning national championships at every level from juvenile to junior. Congratulations to Parker!
(10/9/07) Congratulations to Lisa Yee who passed her Senior FS and to Honi Jurison passed her Senior Moves in August.
(10/9/07) Club members Victoria Suttora, Kyle MacMillan, Lorraine McNamara, Quinn Carpenter, Danvi Pham, and Vu Pham, along with Coach Alexei Kiliakov, were featured in a WUSA9 news story on October 8, 2007 about the Wheaton Ice Skating Academy. Taping of the story took place during the WFSC South Atlantic Sendoff on September 29 at Capitals IcePlex in Ballston, VA. Watch the video.
(9/29/07) Armin Mahbanoozadeh won his second Jr. Grand Prix medal in only his second Jr. Grand Prix event today at the
ISU JGP Croatia Cup, where he received the bronze medal for Junior Men!

(8/15/07) Congratulations to Rachel Nevares who won the Silver Medal in Junior ladies at the 2007 U.S. Collegiate Championships
in Oxford, Ohio. Rachel, who will begin her second year at Northern Virginia Community College this fall, made a comeback after finishing fourth in Monday's short program. Nevares, skating to Memoirs of a Geisha, chose not to attempt a double Axel, but she still skated a clean program, sailing through her seven jump elements without any mistakes. Nevares also earned the highest program components score of the evening, and her total of 56.38 put her in first place for the free skate. Her 82.99 total points allowed her to slip ahead of Delaware's Jazmyn Manzouri to take home the silver medal. Full results.

(5/27/07) A certificate was presented by the USFS Governing Council to Washington FSC for conducting the most tests in 2006 of any club in the United States! Freestyle Test Chair Pat Brockner accepted the award in Reno, Nevada on behalf of the Club. (3/4/07) Congratulations to
Ashley Wagner who won the Junior Ladies' bronze medal at the
ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Germany. It was an American sweep in the ladies competition.

Ashley is the third member of the WFSC to win a medal at Junior Worlds. Derrick Delmore won the gold medal in 1998 and Michael Weiss won the gold medal in 1994 and the silver medal in 1993.
(2/25/07) Congratulations to Ice Force One Masters Team who took home the Bronze medal at the 2007 US Synchronized Skating Championships, which were held in Colorado Springs, CO, February 21-24, 2007.

Important Notice Regarding Sanctions!!!
WFSC sponsored events are sanctioned for our skaters when required, but skaters need a letter of permission from the Club in order to participate in an exhibition or other such event hosted by other clubs or rinks. Sanctioned events ensure the protection of our skaters' eligibility for USFSA qualifying competitions & activities. For more information, refer to the USFSA Sanctions Primer. Please contact Linda Laurel to request a sanction for an event at a WFSC rink (USFSA requires 30 days notice to submit), or to obtain a letter of permission for an individual skater to perform with another club or rink.
