Nearly every year, the Pirates draft a speedy HS outfielder
somewhere in the first dozen rounds or so. So far, none has gotten out of
the low minors. Many of them have been football players and Davis is no
exception, as he's also a running back. He apparently is more committed to
baseball, as he's signed a letter of intent to play the sport at the University
of Texas. He also goes by the name Runey. Oddly, if you google
Burundi Davis, which is the name listed for the draft pick at MLB.com, you
get football links, while Runey Davis returns baseball links. All the
links reference Georgetown High, though, and Baseball America lists a Runey
Davis as a baseball prospect from that school, so I'm sure I've got the right
guy.
Davis did not
sign.
