I can't find anything on Jared Springer, but there's a Cody Springer who was a star RHP at Texas HS power Montgomery for three years.  He's a senior and the same size listed for Jared, so I suspect they're the same guy.  Cody signed a letter of intent with Sam Houston State.  Baseball America suggested that, even without the DFE process, teams may draft promising HS players who are headed to college just to establish relationships with them that might prove helpful later.  That could be the case here.  The Pirates didn't sign Springer.
