Baseball America touts Freeman as a potential five-tool player with speed, strength and athleticism, and ranks him 13th among Florida prospects in a good year for the state. Various sources, however, state that he has a serious hitch in his swing that will have to be corrected for him to hit as a pro. Freeman told a local paper that the Pirates would follow him in a summer league and possibly try to sign him near the August 15 deadline. They must have liked what they saw because they signed him about a week before the deadline. He may not have signed in time to play in 2008, but in any event he's likely to open 2009 in the GCL unless he's very impressive in fall instructional league and in spring training.
