Baseball America ranked Komstadius as the 19th best prospect
in Washington state. He's a power hitter whom BA also characterizes as
athletic enough to play the outfield. As a senior he hit .474 with 10
HRs. He has a half-scholarship with the U. of Washington, but
sounded in an interview like he'd prefer to sign. He was disappointed at
not going in the first ten rounds, but his parents want $200,000, which may
explain why he didn't. He may be one of the Pirates' fallback options in
case they don't sign some of their early picks.
