Roman was the second player selected by the Pirates from
the
Puerto Rico Baseball Academy, the other being seventh-round pick Benjamin
Gonzalez. Like Gonzalez, Roman is a speedy player with an excellent
glove, in centerfield in his case, who may not be able to
hit. Baseball America refers to him as having no real approach at the plate.
He is, however, the fastest player in Puerto Rico—Gonzalez is the second fastest—so maybe he
can bunt his way on a lot. He signed shortly after the
draft and will head to Bradenton.
