As a senior, Heller went 5-3-1, 2.50, allowing 38 hits and 33 walks, with 74 Ks, in 50 IP. Baseball America rated him as the 19th best prospect in Florida and #129 nationally. The University of Florida recruited him as a two-way player, infielder and pitcher, but pro scouts like him as a pitcher. BA states that his velocity was up and down, sometimes at 88-92 and sometimes in the mid-90s, and he throws an average curve. PG Crosschecker gives his velocity as 91-94. It’s pretty clear from his walk total that he needs work on his command and on his secondary pitches, but he has an outstanding arm and would be a big signing for the Pirates. He’ll probably cost early round bonus money.
