Reyna broke out in his first year at Bakersfield, increasing his velocity from the upper-80s to as high as 93-94, according to the school’s web site. He also throws a curve. He probably still needs a good deal of work, as he walked a lot of batters. His ERA is a little misleading, too, as he allowed a lot of unearned runs compared to other pitchers on his team. Baseball America didn’t include him in its list of the top 150 California prospects, but a lot of good players do slip through those lists—Jarek Cunningham, for instance. Reyna shouldn’t be hard to sign unless he just doesn’t want to turn pro now.
