Spangler was eligible for the draft as a redshirt
sophomore. He made huge strides over his freshman year, when he made the
team as a walkon, especially with his walk and K numbers. According
to Baseball America, he bulked up and increased his velocity from the low-80s to
around 90. He also has a good curve and good control. The Pirates'
system is short on LHPs . . . well, on pitchers generally . . . so Spangler
would be an interesting addition. As a sophomore, however, he may not be
easy to sign.
