Jones was only a fair hitter in college, with little power.  The Pirates drafted him for his glove and he almost immediately made the transition to organizational catcher.  An 11th round pick isn't an early pick, but you don't generally see teams drafting for organizational players at that point.  After his 2005 debut at Williamsport, he spent some time in Lynchburg early in 2006, while Neil Walker was out, but otherwise he served as backup to Steve Lerud at Hickory and had a stint on the DL.  He figured to back up somewhere in class A in 2007, but he started the season on the disabled list and never surfaced.  He opened 2008 at Hickory as the backup to Ronald Pena, who was starting due to an injury to Andrew Walker.  He later backed up at Lynchburg due to various injuries and when Steve Lerud moved up to AA.  He actually hit reasonably well, even showing some power.  Whatever the Pirates make of his defense, he can't throw:  he caught only 3 of 47 potential base stealers.  He'll probably be a backup in class A somewhere in 2009.
