The Pirates'
media guide shows Mendez as having played for the GCL Pirates in 2005. That can't be right, as he wasn't signed until September of that year and he's not listed anywhere else. In any event, he didn't hit much in 2006 and didn't make the GCL roster in 2007.
He didn't appear anywhere in the system in 2007 but was back in camp in 2008, so he may have been hurt.
