Reyes is a good defensive catcher with a good arm, which has earned him a steady job as an organizational player.  Unfortunately, he's shown little hitting ability and for a long time wouldn't take a walk.  He shared catching duties in the GCL and at Williamsport in his first two years, then spent the first half of 2004 backing up at Hickory.  When the NY-P season started, he returned there and shared C with Brandon Reddinger.  He spent most of 2005 backing up Neil Walker at Hickory after Steve Lerud got hurt.  In 2006, injuries got him the backup job at Altoona.  In 2007, Walker's conversion to 3B, Mike McCuistion's disappearance, and injuries to Humberto Cota and Einar Diaz created openings in AAA and AA.  Reyes appeared sporadically at both levels and spent some time on the DL himself, although teams also use the minor league DL as an "inactive" list, since they typically carry a couple players above the roster limit to fill in at need.  Reyes started showing some signs of progress with the bat and even had a decent walk total.  He was a free agent after the 2007 season, but re-signed and will probably appear as a backup in the upper minors, most likely AA.
