Schoenfeld is a very raw catcher whom Baseball America
characterizes
as having good speed and enough athletic ability to
move to a
corner position. He’s more about potential than performance yet, as he needs work on both ends of his game, but BA thinks he could have a very high ceiling due to his athleticism. He certainly didn’t put up the big numbers that HS prospects generally do. He had a commitment to San Diego State, but signed with the Pirates for $195,000. He struggled in a brief appearance in the GCL and will likely return there in 2010.
