Baseball America touted Freeman as a potential five-tool player with speed, strength and athleticism, and ranked him 13th among Florida prospects in a good year for the state.  Various sources, however, stated that he had a serious hitch in his swing that would have to be corrected for him to hit as a pro.  Freeman told a local paper that the Pirates would follow him in a summer league and possibly try to sign him near the August 15 deadline.  They must have liked what they saw because they signed him about a week before the deadline. He got in a little action toward the end of the GCL season.  He didn't hit much but also didn't strike out much.  Returning there in 2009, however, he had major problems making contact.  On the plus side he showed good power and took the occasional walk.  He played both RF and CF.  Freeman is likely to return to the GCL in 2010.
