Sanchez follows the standard pattern for the Pirates' Latin
American prospects of spending two
or three years in the VSL or DSL and
reaching the GCL only after they're old for the level. Sanchez at least began showing
a little gap power for the first time in 2007. He made the GCL
roster for 2008 and had a good year, getting on base a lot
and showing very good plate discipline. Of course, he also possesses the two standard drawbacks for the
Pirates' Latin American hitting prospects: aside from being too old for the GCL,
he also showed no power. His base stealing skills could
use work, too. He batted .311 against RHPs and .214 against
LHPs. With the GCL roster loaded with centerfielders, he spent more time in right
than center. Sanchez could be at Bradenton or State College in
2009.
