Silva didn't do much with the bat in his first two VSL seasons beyond take some walks.  He was in camp in March 2006, but didn't make the GCL roster.  Back in the VSL things didn't improve.  In fact, he was easily the worst hitter with the VSL affiliate.  He nevertheless made the GCL roster in 2007 and held his own pretty well in limited playing time, although one walk and 14 Ks isn't good.  He returned to the GCL in 2008 as the backup at 1B, which appears to be his position now after he spent previous years at 3B.  He hit well, with much improved strike zone judgment and power.  Unfortunately, Silva's 2009 season was largely lost to injuries.  He missed most of the season until late July, came back and hit well for a week, and then went out for the rest of the year.  When he did play, he played third.  Silva seems to be making progress as a hitter, but he's also already 22 and needs to get a chance to show what he can do.  Hopefully he can stay healthy in 2010.
