One-time Pirates' firstbaseman Dick Stuart used to talk about the difficulty he faced in the minors due to the fact that he hit 64 HRs in one season. Teams would focus on hitters with 30 or 40 HRs, but not on him because the number 64 was too far outside people's frame of reference. Navarro's 2008 stats are about like that, dwarfing his good 2007 season. According to Baseball America, his stuff isn't overwhelming: he throws a mid- to upper-80s fastball with a good curve and change. His size is bound to lead to doubts. He didn't exactly dominate the GCL in his debut there. He allowed seven earned runs in his first six innings, but only six in his last 25. He walked very few, but his K rate was nothing like what it was in the DSL. He's an extreme flyball pitcher, or at least he was in 2009. He'll probably make it to State College, at least, in 2010.
