Forrer has certainly been around. He pitched for Auburn University in 2003, then went to junior college at Chipola the next year. He redshirted at LSU in 2005 as he had shoulder surgery, then pitched for LSU in 2006. In 2007 he went to NAIA school Auburn at Montgomery and had an outstanding year. He was drafted twice by the Dodgers—in the 38th round in 2002 and the 17th in 2004—but didn't sign. They must have had some regard for him, although being a tall lefty would attract scouts' attention in any event. NAIA stats have to be discounted heavily, but Forrer might be a good flier for the Pirates to take. As a senior, he signed quickly. The Pirates apparently found he wasn't ready for the NY-P, as they sent him to the GCL after he got hammered in several abbreviated outings for State College. He only pitched a little for Bradenton, so I wonder whether he's healthy. If he is, he'll probably appear in short season ball in 2008.
