The Braves drafted Fuesser as a high school senior but didn't sign him. PG Crosschecker characterizes him as a pitchability—i.e., finesse—guy, which is consistent with the Pirates' description of him. He throws an upper-80s fastball, a curve, and a changeup that needs work, with the curve being a good pitch according to Baseball America. His command and feel for pitching are good. He had a good K rate his first year in JUCO ball, so hopefully he has some ability to miss bats. As it turned out, the Pirates signed him in late July for a $125,000 bonus. The amount indicates they consider him a prospect and not an organizational player. He pitched regularly in August in the GCL and struggled with his control, but he was obviously very hard to hit. He could open 2010 with West Virginia or State College.
