Canal started showing some power in his third year in the DSL, but at 21 he was old to be still at that level. He again showed a little power as an overage player in the GCL in 2006, but had serious problems making contact, as he takes a very big cut on each swing. He was virtually helpless against RHPs, hitting 133/202/189 in 90 ABs against them, while posting an OPS of 1.050 against LHPs. Back in the GCL for a second year, he improved overall while showing very good power, but he nevertheless continues to have major contact issues. He still had a large platoon split, but his OPS this time against RHPs was a more respectable .773, against 1.018 vs. LHPs. He played mainly in the corners in 2007 after playing some CF previously. By next spring he'll be 24, so it's difficult to see him going much further without a huge breakout.
