The Pirates acquired Corsaletti for a PTBNL or cash in mid-May 2009. Their purpose seems to have been to shore up a struggling Altoona team, which (with Jose Tabata injured) was getting almost no offense from its outfield of Brad Corley, James Boone and Jonel Pacheco. The move probably shows the new regime isn't completely oblivious to the desires of their minor league affiliates for competitive teams. Corsaletti seems to have been about as good as he was going to get coming out of college, as he's done well at AA and hasn't adapted well to AAA. He's drawn a lot of walks, but doesn't have either great speed or more than modest power. He's hit LHPs about as well as RHPs. His hitting for Altoona was disappointing, except for the very high walk total. He's not eligible for minor league free agency yet and there's no chance of him being selected in the Rule 5 draft. He figures to return to Altoona in 2010.
