Noris had an outstanding debut in 2007, finishing among the
league leaders in doubles, HRs, RBIs and slugging. For some reason,
though, the Pirates sent him back to the VSL in 2008. He had a similar but
slightly weaker season. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the
Pirates do consider him a prospect and he was in the GCL in
2009. He was a little old to be making his US debut; it's possible the
Pirates simply wasted his 2008 season. He hit for very good power,
although most of his HRs came in one week.
The low walk rate and extremely high strikeout rate are
obviously major concerns, as he won't be able to sustain that
kind of plate discipline and still hit much. He had a huge platoon split, but the number
of at-bats is too small to mean anything. Defensively
he's limited to LF. The Pirates could give Noris a chance at low A as
they won't have much outfield talent moving up from State College, but he may
not be ready for that level.
