Baseball America rated Parry as the second best prospect in
the Dakotas, which essentially meant that he had a chance to get drafted.
BA thinks he has
the arm strength and athleticism to catch. He played catcher, outfield, and third at South
Dakota State, although in 2007 he was primarily a DH. He played
two years in JC ball before going to SD State,
where he was an academic All-American. He obviously has power, and since he
hits left-handed it'd be nice to see him succeed. He signed after the draft,
and was assigned to Bradenton. He split his limited playing time between LF
and DH. Judging from how little he played, the Pirates probably regard him as
an organizational player. He could be with either short season team next year,
although it's hard to see any point in him playing in the GCL.
