The Pirates obtained Bayliss and a PTBNL for Mark Redman.  Bayliss wasn't going much of anywhere as a starter in the Royals' system, but he moved to the bullpen when he reached AA and, like many other pitchers, showed immediate improvement.  His K rate increased to more than a batter an inning and opponents batted only .208 against him.  The one negative sign was a high walk rate.  He held his own in a brief stint in the majors.  Bayliss throws a low-90s fastball that can get into the mid-90s, a pretty good slider and an inconsistent curve.  He was expected to get a shot at the Pirate bullpen, but was an early cut and will start off in AAA.
