The Pirates drafted Benoit as a draft-eligible
sophomore. He's very well traveled, having been at
the University of Oklahoma in 2004, then moving to Grayson
Community College after struggling there. He
got hurt at Grayson and pitched little,
but the Phillies still drafted him. At Oklahoma State, he was the
third starter, but certainly improved on his 2004 performance. The Pirates regard
him as having an average
curve and a fastball with good life,
and think he can be a back-of-the-rotation starter. He signed and
should open at Williamsport.
