Bresnehan, like 4th round pick Jared Hughes, did
not live up to his billing as a top prep
prospect. He throws a fastball that reaches 93, but it lacks movement and he
struggled with the strike zone in college. The Pirates like his slider and regard him as a potential setup reliever. Looking for
bullpen help rather than starters seems to have been a
part of the team's "aim low" strategy in the 2006 draft. He appears to be
yet another overdraft, probably the third by the Pirates in the first five rounds.
He's signed and will probably head for Williamsport.
