Davidson was one of several "projectable" LHPs the Pirates signed in 2002. His
best pitch is a curve. After signing too late to play that year, he struggled
with his control in 2003. The control problems continued in his second GCL
season, although he didn't give up many hits and had a high K rate. He began
2005 at Hickory and even started a couple games. He had a high K rate, but he
couldn't throw strikes. He was sent back to extended spring training and
eventually was assigned to Williamsport. He did far better there, with a walk
rate that was only high rather than astronomical, and a very high K rate. He
missed some time with injury—it's difficult to get injury info on lower
level players, but I think Davidson has struggled with minor injuries throughout
his time with the Pirates. He's still pitched very little, so he probably can't
be totally written off. He seems to have good enough stuff to make it as a
LOOGY if he can throw strikes more consistently.
