One of a number of college seniors that the Pirates signed out of the 2005 draft, Herman's senior stats were weak, especially his K rate. He pitched well against the younger hitters in the GCL, but still with a low K rate. It's puzzling why the Pirates would want to give so many innings to a 23-year-old pitching against teenagers rather than try to develop somebody younger and with more upside.
