Pearson throws a fastball that reaches 90 mph and is regarded as having a very
good slider. He's also considered very athletic and was a good hitter in HS.
He struggled in his first couple of GCL outings, then pitched very well afterward.
Surprisingly, he was sent back to the GCL in 2004. The decision may have been
related to some injury problem, though, as he got bombed in his first game, then
didn't pitch again. I have no information about the exact nature of the problem.
He pitched for Hickory in 2005, which probably indicates that the Pirates think
highly of him, but he had a terrible season, getting walloped to the tune of
338/402/513. He did not improve over the course of the season, either, even
after getting moved to the bullpen. He'll probably return to Hickory in 2006.
