Nitkowski is a classic example of how easy it is for a LHP to find a job.  He had a good season in 1998 and a decent one in 1999, but otherwise has mostly pitched poorly.  He's always had control problems and usually has given up a lot of hits as well.  He throws a low-90s fastball, a change and a curve.  At this stage, there's no reason to believe he could pitch effectively at the major league level.  The Pirates signed him in 2005 after he failed to make the Twins' staff in spring training.  He did an outstanding job for Indianapolis, but the Pirates released him to let him pursue a chance to pitch for the Nationals.  He didn't do much for them in a few brief appearances and ended up back in AAA.  The Pirates signed him again as a free agent for 2006.  He did not make the team in spring training and will open in AAA.
