Reames looked like an outstanding prospect after his first two years with the Cardinals, but he lost the next two to Tommy John surgery. He seems to have regained his stuff around mid-2000 and still looked like a good prospect when he was traded to Montreal in the Fernando Tatis deal. He's never made the adjustment to the majors, however, with control being the primary issue. He had more injury problems in 2003-04, although he pitched well in AAA in 2005. Reames throws a low 90s fastball and has a decent curve and good change. When he's been healthy he's had very strong H, BB and K #s in the minors, so the stuff seems to be there. He's one guy who does not seem to have benefited from converting to relief. The Pirates signed him to a minor league deal, as they're looking for RH bullpen depth. He'll probably have a shot at making the team in spring training, but most likely he'll open at Indianapolis.
