Redmond was disappointed at being drafted in the 40th round (by Kansas City) in
2003. He went to CC and was the pitcher of the year in his conference, but didn't
sign. The Pirates drafted him 39th and signed him after his second CC season.
He was named pitcher of the year in his conference again and led his team to the
state junior college title, throwing 18 scoreless innings in the playoffs. He
put up impressive #s in his pro debut, although BA characterized his success as
having more to do with maturity and polish than with outstanding stuff. He
reportedly throws a low-90s fastball that he locates well, a decent curve, and a
change that needs work.
