Johnson throws in the low 90s, reaching 95, and has an outstanding curve. He had
one excellent outing for Bradenton in 2003, then missed the rest of the season due
to gall bladder surgery. He returned there in 2004 and had a high ERA, but put up
pretty good peripheral numbers, with a high K rate. He got a late season promotion
to Lynchburg when the Hillcats needed bodies. Not surprisingly, he got hammered,
but his K rate remained good. The Pirates are high on him and were expected to
start him in the Hickory rotation, but he had arthroscopic elbow surgery and
missed the entire season. He's expected to be ready to pitch in 2006, which
he'll hopefully be able to start at Hickory.
