Strickland was a good reliever for the Expos and Mets until he ran into Tommy John surgery in 2003.  He essentially missed 2004, then signed a minor league deal with the Mets that contained an out clause, which he used to become a free agent in May of 2005.  He signed with Houston and, while pitching for their AAA affiliate, appeared to have regained his form.  He pitched briefly in the majors and then refused the assignment after the season when the Astros tried to outright him to AAA.  The Pirates signed him to a minor league contract that calls for a $650K salary if he makes the team.  When healthy, Strickland threw a fastball that reached 94 and a good slider.  He's always had strong hit and K rates, with some control problems.  If he regains his form, he could be a steal.  He's still only 29, so it's certainly possible.  He did not make the team in spring training, however, and will open in AAA.
