The Pirates signed Adams to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.  He was a solid reliever for a number of years, featuring a low 90s sinker and a good slider.  He's an extreme groundball pitcher, with a G/F ratio around 3.0 early in his career, although it's declined to around 2.0 in recent years.  He's tended to allow a fair number baserunners, with a career WHIP of 1.46, and his K:BB numbers have been erratic over the years.  His strong point for most of his career was keeping the ball in the park.  He started having trouble with gopher balls in 2004-05, allowing one every 6.4 IP; his previous rate was one every 15.7.  Supposedly his stuff started deserting him in 2004.  He struggled badly with the Phillies in 2005, then continued to struggle when he was sent to AAA, prompting him to announce his retirement in July.  He did not make the Pirates out of spring training.  Adams may not pitch at Indianapolis, as the Pirates had an agreement with him to let him seek another major league job if he didn't make their roster, and he may retire rather than return to AAA.
