Amaro evidently washed out of the Florida system, possibly due to injury, and the Pirates signed him in May 2006 after he'd had a two-year layoff.  He pitched well enough in the VSL in 2006 and then made the GCL roster in 2007.  He pitched well as a swing man, except he had a low K rate, but he was old for rookie ball.  He made one fill-in appearance at Lynchburg late in the year.  He'll open 2008 at Hickory.
