The Pirates signed Castorri out of independent ball. The Twins drafted him out of HS in 2002, but he didn't sign. He wasn't drafted out of college. He pitched a little at State College, then served as Hickory's closer after Olivo Astacio was promoted to Lynchburg. He did well enough in the role despite allowing a lot of hits. He opened 2008 on the disabled list, but eventually filled in at Lynchburg and Altoona. He pitched reasonably well at the former-the ERA is a little misleading because five of the eleven runs he allowed were unearned-but was overmatched at the latter. He'll probably play a similar role in 2009.
