The Pirates acquired Erickson, along with C/OF Eric Fryer, from the Yankees for Eric Hinske. He's a finesse pitcher, throwing a sinker at 86-90 and three other pitches, the best of which is a slider. He's an extreme groundball pitcher, posting ground out to air out ratios of 3.23 in 2009 and 2.59 in 2008. He obviously keeps the ball in the park very well. He also, however, has advanced only slowly and gives up a lot of hits, so it's hard to see him as more than a very marginal prospect. After the trade he continued to pitch mainly in relief for West Virginia, often as a closer. He continued to walk very few with decent K numbers, and was harder to hit than before the trade. He should be in the Bradenton bullpen in 2010.
