The Pirates drafted Foster as a junior. He pitched and
played first at Division III Bradford, although he didn't hit that well.
He signed right after the draft and went to Bradenton, where he didn't pitch
well against the younger GCL competition. He doesn't throw hard; his
fastball was in the mid- to upper-80s in camp. Nevertheless, he was almost unhittable pitching
in short relief at State
College in 2009. It's probably too soon to get excited about
his showing there. Twenty-nine innings aren't
a lot to go on and the fact that they used him in
short
relief probably shows the Pirates consider him more of
an organizational pitcher. Foster should be in the West Virginia bullpen in 2010.
