The Pirates signed Laureano after the A's cut him loose in 2008. He served as the primary closer on the Pirates' DSL affiliate. His K rate saw a large increase, but he was quite old for the level. He went to the GCL in 2009, where at 23 he was again very old for the level. He pitched decently there, with good BB and K numbers but too many hits allowed. His primary problem was with LH batters, who hit over .350 against him. At the end of the season, the Pirates sent him to West Virginia. He faced seven batters in three outings there, fanning six and walking one. At this point I don't know what to make of Laureano.
