Massey played three years at the University of Tennessee-Martin, then transferred to Southern Miss, where he was easily the weakest of the team's three main starters. He signed quickly, but appeared in just two games at Bradenton. I don't know whether he was hurt, although he stayed on the roster. Like many of the college pitchers the Pirates have drafted the last two years, his sole purpose appears to be to fill out the lower level rosters. Why the Pirates want to fill up the rookie league roster with college guys is a mystery. It serves no developmental purpose.
