The Pirates signed Nestor to a minor league contract after his release by the Phillies, who'd claimed him off waivers from Florida.  The Pirates and Marlins seem to share an interest in raw, strong-armed pitchers; in recent years both have employed Henry Owens, Ronald Belisario, and now Nestor, who throws in the mid-90s, occasionally harder.  He also throws a hard slider and a cutter.  He's had success only sporadically in the minors due to poor control, a problem that seems to have grown the last couple years.  The Pirates assigned him to Altoona and used him as a closer.  He got his stuff under somewhat better contol than it had been in 2008 and early 2009, but walks, and gopher balls, remained a problem.  Otherwise, he fanned a lot of hitters and didn't give up a lot of hits.  He'll be a free agent in the fall and will probably move on.
