Bomback played for Broward CC before attending Florida
Atlantic. He had a year of eligibility left but signed with the
Pirates. His team appears to have played in a high-offense environment, so
his hitting #s have to be considered with that
in mind. He was assigned to Bradenton, in
keeping with the Pirates' puzzling tradition of loading their rookie league roster
with college players. That tradition seems to have ended with Dave Littlefield's long overdue departure. Bomback had a decent season against the younger competition there, drawing a lot of walks, not striking out much and hitting some doubles. He was the team's primary thirdbaseman and played a little at 2B. He started off 2008 as a backup at Hickory and finished it at Lynchburg, playing mainly 2B and 3B. He had a good walk total at Hickory and otherwise just held his own at the plate. He'll probably be a utility player in class A again in 2009.
