Cavagnaro didn't become a regular until his junior year at Penn State.  He had the look of a prospective organizational player who was drafted to provide a hometown presence for State College.  He signed shortly after the draft and was the regular at 2B for the Spikes.  He struggled through a bad July, hitting .167, but he hit .306 in August and September.  His plate discipline wasn't so good.  He was the regular at 2B for Hickory in 2008 and didn't hit much, although his plate discipline improved a bit.  He gradually lost playing time to Greg Picart in July and the Pirates sent him to Lynchburg in early August.  He played off and on there, posting some good small-sample-size numbers.  Depending on who else is there, he could battle Picart and maybe Dan Bomback for the regular 2B job at Lynchburg in 2009.  It's more likely, though, that he'll be a utility player, especially if both Jordy Mercer and Jose de los Santos are there.
