The Pirates acquired Barnwell from the Astros for future considerations just before the beginning of the 2009 season.  He seems to have slipped in somehow without having played in the Cleveland organization before, possibly because the Pirates had already cornered the market on former Indians' minor leaguers.  Like a lot of infielders who stick around long enough to be playing in the upper minors in their late 20s, Barnwell eventually began to hit respectably.  Unfortunately, that didn't continue into 2009 and he fell apart with the bat.  He played every position on the field for Indianapolis except catcher, and that includes pitcher.  He isn't likely to return.
