The Pirates signed Bowers to play for Altoona in 2007 after Javier Guzman got hurt.  Bowers made it to AAA in the Cardinals' system without establishing himself as a prospect.  His hitting pretty much collapsed in 2005-06.  He's done better at AA and had a good year for the Curve, hitting for average and gap power, controlling the strike zone very well, and playing a solid 2B for most of the year.  He also played a little at SS and 3B.  Of the Curve's four 2007 middle infielders—Bowers, Guzman, Brandon Chaves and Taber Lee—the first three became free agents in the off-season and Lee was released.  Bowers was the only one they brought back, which seemed like a good idea because he was the best player of the four.  He played more at 3B than anybody else for the Curve, but unfortunately his hitting fell off badly.  He actually hit far better while filling in for a while in AAA.  It's hard to say whether the Pirates will try to bring him back for another year.
