Gonzalez had a good debut in the VSL. The power and
patience may come later. He was the primary thirdbaseman on a very strong
team, although he also played a little at short and other positions. In
spring training in 2009 he was playing mostly
at short. He earned in invitation to spring training in Florida, making
a nice change from the prevailing pattern under Dave Littlefield of players
spending three years in the Latin summer leagues before reaching the US. He
made the GCL roster and had a decent debut. He also saw time
at State College late in the season due to injuries. He
saw time at second, short and third, playing mostly
third in the GCL and second at State College. Gonzalez may return
to State College in 2010.
